Promotion of the economy through support of good business, good government
and good citizenship has long been the focus of the Legendary Key Largo
Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber works closely with local charitable organizations and educational institutions to improve the quality of life for all, and with local, state and federal government agencies to protect the rights of our membership and businesses here in the Florida Keys.
Membership Benefits
For the tourist-related business, the Legendary Key Largo Chamber of Commerce provides a host of ways to profit from the Chamber's experience with the remarkably successful . More than 150,000 people troop through the Center annually. Our Inquiry Digest Service provides access to the Center's tens of thousands of annual callers, anxious to hear about local businesses. The Chamber's Brochure Distribution service offers community and visitor access to information for all our members.
Because of the phenomenal response member businesses have received from
the Center, some people have asked whether the Chamber isn't solely for
tourist-related businesses. While the Chamber firmly believes that, due
to the nature of the Upper Keys economy, all businesses are helped by a
thriving tourist industry, nothing could be further from the truth. The
Chamber is, of course, delighted that the Visitor Center brings so much
business to those members who are able to take advantage of it, but proudly
continues to offer a variety of services to all its members. As a matter
of note, the majority of those on the Board of Directors come from businesses that do not deal directly with tourists.
The Chamber, for example, offers unparalleled networking opportunities and
ways to keep the community informed about changes in member businesses.
In addition to the ample networking opportunities provided at monthly luncheons and an annual dinner, the chamber also hosts a networking forum prior to each luncheon and a "Members in Motion" after-hours party on the fourth Thursday of every month. The Chamber also features a business member in each issue of its monthly "Legend," the official monthly publication of the Legendary Key Largo Chamber of Commerce.
Referrals have also had a big impact on our business members. The Chamber
is proud to offer information about all of its member businesses. The Chamber's President usually handles member referrals personally.
New arrivals to the Keys frequently request our relocation packet. This
packet, including membership directory, is available to visitors and callers
to the Chamber's office. We gladly include member materials when their services directly benefit newcomers.
The Chamber also works to represent all of the membership's interests when
issues of governmental concern arise. Two recent efforts involved the county
sign ordinance and the National Marine Sanctuary.
Simply put, the Chamber uses the power of united area businesses working
together to go to bat for its members whenever the need arises.
